Struts & Faucet is pleased to present a special outdoor screening of this year’s Super 8 Hotel Film Festival; in conjunction with Ok.Quoi?! Contemporary Arts Festival. Artists sophia bartholomew, Linda Rae Dornan, Evan Furness, Shamus Griffith, Hailey Guzik, C.L. McLaughlin, Rena Thomas, and Andrea Thorne will present new film works under the stars.
sophia bartholomew is a Fredericton-based artist who works with video, performance and other time-based media. She is ever thankful for the existence of the New Brunswick Arts Board, and grateful for their support of this and other projects.
Linda Rae Dornan’s art practice is performative and interdisciplinary, inclusive of video, film, installation, performance, sound and writing. Each feeds into the other exploring how we speak/communicate and connect to each other and the land around us through voice and body, listening, language, embodied text, place, memory and being. Her work has been exhibited and screened nationally and internationally. She has programmed an audio art radio program, Or Something Like That, on CHMA 106.9 FM in Sackville for ten years.
Evan Furness is a third year BFA student at Mount Allison University hailing from Vernon Bridge, Prince Edward Island. He uses a variety of media including drawing, sculpture, and bookmaking to explore ideas about place, landscape, and personal narrative.
Shamus Griffith is a Sackville-based freelance artist-builder-designer-craftsman of sorts. He was born and raised in Grande-Digue, NB (across the Isthmus of Chignecto, inland along the Northumberland Strait). He has a BFA from Mount Allison University and a Permaculture Design Certificate from Motheroak Permaculture. He recently spent a year on the complete resurrection/re-design of a house built in the early 1900s. In his work he often uses reclaimed and/or locally sourced materials with embedded narrative: wood, leather, metal, stone, etc.
Hailey Guzik is a fourth year BFA student at Mount Allison University. She takes inspiration from her temporal surroundings, having developed a long-standing curiosity for the outdoors. Her work focuses on the individual relationship she has with nature and the material found within natural and developed environments.
C.L. McLaughlin is an artist/musician living and working in Sackville, NB.
Rena Thomas is an emerging artist, nanny, doula and yoga instructor living in Halifax, NS. Her artistic practice revolves around the physical and emotional experiences of being a woman.
Andrea Thorne works as a nanny and studies herbal medicine. She uses glass sculpturally, and has been exploring the mediums of light, arrangements, and film.
