Minx is a series of large paintings that portray long lustrous hair. The images are derived from intensely edited photo collages, which extract and combine select elements of idealized princess-like hair. Compositionally, only the back of the women’s heads are revealed… The rich reverberating colour and synchronized paint strokes, together with the large, horizontal format, allude to a movie screen. An occasional seam in the image appear,… revealing subtle hints at collage to the viewer. The tufts of hair sometimes simulate rolling hills and give an overall feeling that these works stem from a fantasy where all things are perfect and nothing is out of place.
