Deadline September 14: 5pm

We are seeking proposals from emerging artists in the Atlantic region for projects resulting in an exhibition as part of the fifth annual A Handmade Assembly October 21 – 24, 2015.

The successful applicant will have access to studio/gallery space from September 21 through to October 24, 2015. Whatever shape the project takes, it will culminate in an exhibition to open on October 23 as part of A Handmade Assembly.

Organized collaboratively by Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre and Mount Allison University’s Owens Art Gallery, A Handmade Assembly invites artists, curators and others to lead discussions, facilitate workshops, initiate projects, open exhibitions, and share in a common thread, the handmade.

A Handmade Assembly is an initiative in response to the significant number of artists who have in recent years been using materials and processes that are laborious, often intimate, and usually associated with traditional craft methods. The discourse surrounding these practices is growing in turn as DIY aesthetics and ideals flood the mainstream. In appreciation of the handmade in contemporary culture, A Handmade Assembly is a venue for artists to discuss their practices and make new and necessary networks.

Emerging artists from the Atlantic region who have completed their formal studies are eligible to apply.

An artist fee will be paid.

To apply, please send:
1. 10 images of your work
2. A description of the proposed project and resulting exhibition (max 500 words)
3. A brief bio (max 250 words)
4. A current C.V.

Applications can be sent to info@strutsgallery.ca by 5pm on Monday September 14, 2015. Please include the subject line ’emerging artist project’. Thank you.
