Using musical translation, sound, performance and art objects, Pickard Quarry Transpose explores the architectural elements of the Mount Allison University Chapel in connection with the geological, geographical, industrial and historical origins of its physical components.
On Friday January 20, Robinson will collaborate with organist Nicholas Veltmeyer to present a live musical performance at the Mount Allison University Chapel between 7:00pm and 8:00pm (drop-in, performance will be repeated over the hour). All are encouraged to visit the Chapel before attending the exhibition’s opening reception at Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre. The artist will be present.
William Robinson lives and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His art practice includes a variety of media such as site-specific installations, performance, video, musical composition, sculpture and printed matter. Robinson explores how sound and music can bring out social and historical narratives resting dormant within particular sites and built environments. Currently, he is investigating the material, cultural and sonic transmutation of certain metal objects and their related manufacturing processes. In 2016 he received an Audio Research Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts and was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award. www.williamrobinson.ca
