Please join us for a screening of video works and artist talk with current Open Studio artist-in-residence Myriam Jacob-Allard.
Myriam Jacob-Allard is from Abitibi-Témiscamingue, she lives and works in Montreal. She received a master’s degree in Fine Arts and Media Arts from the Université du Québec à Montreal (2014) and a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Concordia University (2009). She has an interdisciplinary approach and works primarily with performance, video, craft and installation. She has presented her work at the Galerie Sans Nom (2015), in Moncton; l’Écart (2015), in Rouyn-Noranda; L’imagier (2015), in Gatineau; Galerie de l’UQAM (2014), in Montréal; Skol (2014), in Montréal; and has participated in various group exhibitions and festivals in Canada, Europe and South America.
Jacob-Allard envisions a deconstruction of “The Mother” archetype through exploring the already existing space between the myth of the “The Good Mother” and the daily realities of motherhood. Having initially become interested in the figure of the “The Good Mother” within a Québecois context, Myriam will explore how this figure is constructed in other cultural, social and linguistic circumstances to open up the proposal and present a broader range of parallel discourses and perspectives.
